Yin Mindfulness Yoga

While there are many yoga classes available in Singapore today, this class hopes to offer a yoga experience that focuses on the mind to help manage urban stress. In this journey, we learn a little more about ourselves.

Yin Mindfulness Yoga (正念阴瑜伽) is the practice of mindfulness (正念冥想) within the disciplines of Yin Yoga. This is a quiet and meditative practice that draws our focus inwards to the true essence of ourselves. The practice consists of long held stretches without muscular tension, in order to affect the body's connective tissues, joints and ligaments. The stillness of the long held poses also help cultivate a deeper level of calmness, concentration and equanimity. These tissues are compressed to an appropriate intensity to allow smoother flow of "chi" (顺气) or "energy" through our body, aiding joints lubrication and mobility.

Who should practice Yin Mindfulness Yoga?
Yin yoga is for everybody. Beginners and practitioners of all ages will enjoy the calming pace as we hold each pose for a longer period of time. In my teaching experience, working professionals who lead a stressful lifestyle also found Yin Yoga tremendously beneficial as we devote time for reflection. This is also suitable for elderly who seek to maintain good mobility of their joints. Each session is designed to nourish specific meridians (经脉) based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Sivananda Yoga Classes

Sivananda Yoga teaches a traditional, exact and easy-to-learn system that aims at naturally achieving the goal through creating a healthy body and mind. This system of yoga ensures the body retains it's vitality over the years, thereby lowering the risk of disease. Based in the teachings of Swami Sivananda and Swami Vishnudevananda, this style of hatha yoga focuses on the 5 points of yoga.

  • Proper Exercise (asana)
  • Proper Breathing (pranayama)
  • Proper Relaxation (savasana)
  • Proper Vegetarian diet (sattvic diet)
  • Positive thinking and Meditation (vedanta and dhyana)

A session of this style of yoga typically lasts 90 minutes and starts off with relaxing asana (savasana) and pranayama practice (kapalabhati & Anuloma Viloma) before going through a series of other asanas. The asana sequence follows a structured 12 postures with different variations being taught.

Benefits: Sivananda Yoga practice works on all systems of the body, creating suppleness in the joints and flexibility in the spine. With consistent practice, it removes energy blocks so that you can feel more space in the mind and body, leading to inner peace and harmony.

Azyan has been teaching in Singapore since she was 17. At 24, she was invited and traveled to the Middle East to work with royal family. In between her jet-setting schedule, she retreats to Mysore annually to practice with her teacher, R. Sharath Jois.

Her New Yorker husband who used to be Golden Gloves boxer was given the blessings by KPJAYI DIRECTOR R. Sharath Jois to teach the authentic ashtanga sequence after 8 seasons in Mysore, India.

This ashtanga couple arrived from New York last November and decided to make Singapore their home after spending 2 years on the road.

While practicing in the Mysore Room with the People of Ashtanga, you can be rest assured that you will be in good hands on the mat.

The practice room is open from 5.30-10AM, however instructions starts at 6AM.
Seasoned practitioners are welcome to come in anytime before 9AM.
New and Beginner students are advised to come in between 6-9AM.

Students can enjoy coffee and perhaps a post-practice bite breakfast at a privileged price.

Kids Yoga

Yoga Unbound is a form of of yoga that is especially designed for children, for all age groups that is non-competitive, physically challenging and fun.

With regular practice of yoga, children will develop the awareness of their own body, enhance their listening skills and acquire powers of observation which will bring a sense of wholeness.

In addition, taking the time for yoga teaches children about nature - inspiring their imagination as they learn to relax their body and mind. through play, song and movement.

The classes are taught by Ambika Chadha, a registered 500 level master with the SriMa International School of Transformational Yoga. Ambika is currently teaching at a preschool in Singapore

The classes are held outdoors in a serene home environment, so that children can truly connect with nature. In each class we will be doing simple breathing asanas, stretching, balancing posters, various fun filled animal postures, sun salutation, a gentle introduction to meditation and we will end the class with Shavasana for complete relaxation.

500 Hours Distance Learning Hot Yoga Teacher Training

Hot Yoga Alliance (HYA) will be running a new 500 hours Distance Learning Hot Yoga Teacher Training program slated to begin in May 2015. This is the 1st of its kind in Singapore and absolutely perfect for people like yourself who find it hard to take a block of time off from your busy schedule to undertake a yoga teacher training course.

The best thing about HYA’s 500hrs Distance Learning Hot Yoga TT program is that within a 7-month period (or shorter if you are a fast learner), you can manage study and practice together with your family and work at your own pace, while checking in (either via Skype or face-to-face) with our Training Director for about an hour each month.

During the course, you will be required to memorise the 28-postures hot yoga dialogue, study other course modules (via online or through printed sources) and to attend the 9-day boot camp in order to graduate. You will have 7 months the latest to complete the course.

Taking your yoga practice outdoors is a great way to deepen your yoga practice. Moving your mat into nature means dealing with uneven surfaces, visual distractions, listening to different sounds that are constantly in the background, all of which can challenge your focus and commitment. Changing the quality of your surroundings, can change your view on yoga and bring you back to the reason why you love it.

Come study with Bo Srey, a senior yoga teacher and Asia's first certified Anusara yoga teacher (a yoga system with one of the most rigorous certification processes in the industry) and the only fully certified Anusara yoga teacher right here in Singapore.

Originally from New York, Bo is one of the pioneer teachers of Yoga Kula in Berkeley, California, and the first resident teacher to introduce and teach Anusara classes in Pure Yoga Singapore and Absolute Yoga in Bangkok. A teacher's teacher, Bo is well-loved by yoga teachers and students from all over the world.

Currently based in Singapore, Bo and his wife, Shirley, teach workshops, present at yoga conferences, and offer deeper immersions and teacher trainings, both locally and internationally. They also offer retreats, public and corporate classes, and private sessions.
