Being In Yoga

Dates: Nov 2017 - Jun 2018
Venue: Being In Yoga

200 Hours Yoga Diploma Course

A seven-months course to learn yoga as an integrated physical and meditative practice, a philosophy and healing method, in the tradition of Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar.

Our approach:

Yoga is a holistic discipline offering a broad range of solutions to support health and personal transformation, taking into consideration every aspect of the person. While we are aware that most people today consider yoga primarily as a practice of asanas (physical postures, studied extensively in this course), our aim is also to present the many other tools that yoga has to offer, including:

  • in-depth study of breathing techniques
  • meditation
  • visualisation
  • non-religious Vedic chanting
  • guided self-enquiry

This makes our course truly versatile and comprehensive, revealing the unlimited potential of yoga as a method of personal transformation on all levels – physical, mental, and emotional.

Headstand Variations Workshop

Date: Wednesday, 18 Oct 2017
Time: 10.30AM – 12.30PM
Venue: CT HUB2, 114 Lavender Street, #10-73

Headstand Variations Workshop

“Known as the "King of Asanas" because of its many benefits, the Headstand is the first of the 12 asanas and is considered by many to be a panacea for countless human ills. Sitting and standing for most of the day causes your circulation to become sluggish, so your heart has to work harder to pump sufficient blood to the upper parts of your body. Normally, your heart works against gravity; inverting your entire body lessens the strain on your heart, and allows a plentiful supply of oxygen-rich blood to reach your head and brain. This pose is not an advanced asana; even so, to begin with you may wish just to undertake the child's Pose and the Dolphin, progressing to the full Headstand later.” – www.sivananda.org

This workshop is suitable for yoga students who have started practising headstand for about 4 – 6 months. This workshop teaches you how to practise other variations of the headstand. We will start off with some pranayama (breathing exercises) to calm the mind, a few rounds of Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations) to warm up the body, before learning the headstand variations. This group is kept small so that everyone who attends is given ample guide.

Time: 10.30AM – 12.30PM
Venue: CT HUB2, 114 Lavender Street #10-73

Yoga and Meditation Workshop

Yoga is a form of meditation when you connect with your breath as you move mindfully and be fully present. Learn how to calm your mind and hold in your postures, truly feeling the benefits of the asana practice.

Many students practise yoga focusing on the physical postures and did not understand the science of pranayama (Breathing Exercises).

"When the breath wanders the mind also is unsteady. But when the breath is calmed the mind too will be still, and the yogi achieves long life. Therefore, one should learn to control the breath." – Hatha Yoga Pradipika

In this workshop, you will be practising Sivananda Yoga Asana for the first 75 mins and in the last 40 mins, students will be guided into relaxation and meditation.

This workshop is suitable for people who have tensions in the body and feeling a little stressed from your normal busy schedule. Time to focus on yourself and give your body and mind, the space needed to relax and rejuvenate.

Beyond the Mat: Understanding Bandhas

Date: Friday, 25 Aug 2017
Time: 7.15PM - 8.15PM
Venue: Yoga Seeds Green Room, 1382 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1, Bishan Park 2, Singapore 569931

Beyond the Mat: Understanding Bandhas

Do you often admire experienced yogis who can ‘float’ effortlessly from posture to posture with much grace?

Let us explore the 'secret' to this lightness in both stillness and movement in this Beyond the Mat session. Yoga at first glance appears to be a very physical practice, when in fact it is much more energy-focused. With the correct engagement of our Bandhas (energetic locks in our internal body), we can direct our energy flow and find lightness and ease in our postures and movements, on and off the mat.

Feel the difference for yourself in this experiential session with Wendy.

Workshop for Reducing Haze Related Symptoms by Combining Yoga and Aroma

Date: Thursday, 29 Jun 2017
Time: 9.30AM - 11.30AM
Venue: Cocoon Studio

Workshop for Reducing Haze Related Symptoms by Combining Yoga and Aroma

Do you often have a cough? Or feel some throat discomfort recently? It may be due to the Singapore weather, with the high humidity, heavy showers, low atmospheric pressure and Haze.

Haze can cause various problems such as cough, throat discomfort, migraine and rashes. Influenza is also raging in the schools our kids are going to. We can't avoid going out. We would like to avoid taking medicines. So we have to plan ahead.

This workshop will cover about the Haze and how to combine Yoga and Aroma, to smooth and calm the throat, and relieve the symptoms from Haze. With slow and purposeful breathing in Yoga poses, we can cleanse the lungs of stale air and detox the lungs. Using specially blended Aroma which enters our systems via our membranes and skin to enhance the effects of the breathing, further benefitting us. It must be useful not only for you, but also your loved ones.

Please join us, even if you are a beginner in Aroma and Yoga.

Yoga Intensives for Teachers / Advanced Students with Peter Thomson

Dates: 24 - 29 Jun 2017
Sat & Sun: 2.00PM - 5.00PM
Mon - Thu: 6.30AM - 9.00AM
Venue: Oasis Yoga

Yoga Intensives for Teachers / Advanced Students

with Peter Thomson

These intensives are aimed specifically at the needs of teachers, teachers-in-training and very experienced and commited students. They are not suitable for new or recent students to yoga or to the Iyengar method. The general workshops are there for that purpose. As a guide all students are expected to be engaged in their own practice and should be accomplished in sirsasana and sarvangasana.

Peter's particular approach is process or practice-based rather than prescriptive or conceptual and is built off the establishment of clear perceptual foundations that support our on-going yoga development. It demands therefore (and relies on) continuity of attendance and process. All participants in these intensives are therefore required to attend all 4 sessions for the year unless otherwise expressly negotiated with Peter.

Freedom Dance

Date: Friday, 23 Jun 2017
Time: 8.00PM -10.00PM
Venue: 60 Tessensohn Rd, Singapore 217664

Freedom Dance

Freedom Dance is a form of moving meditation aiming to free your body, mind and soul. Using breath and movements, we connect to the space and allow energy to move your body. You definitely need to leave your mind out of the room.

Inspired by other conscious dances like 5 Rhythm, Ecstatic dance, Temple dance, etc, Freedom Dance adopt a free flow "structure". We will start by having some guidelines and agreements, and that is only to ensure a safe space for everyone. After which, we will connect to our breath and the space before we will let our body guide us in a mass "dance" and lastly, a closure for the evening. Often, there will be messages or healing at the end before we end the session.

But because its a free flow "structure" and different group comes in with different energy, sessions and experience may differ slightly.

Full Moon Abundance

Date: Saturday, 10 Jun 2017
Time: 10.00AM - 11.30AM
Venue: 42 Kandahar St, Singapore 108896

Full Moon Abundance

Full moon abundance is a new age practice. It combines healing, meditation as well as practical tips for participants to bring it out of the room. The aim is to incorporate spiritual practice into lives, to work on tangible results and not just a feel good factor.

In our journey, a lot of our work occurs not just in the room during meditation, not just during the yoga class, etc.. It happens out in our lives. The "good energy" we got out from our work in the room are great, but sometimes its not as straight forward as to how to transfer these energy into daily lives, into tangible actions and results.

In this session, you will be guided to transfer clarity into your daily life. Come with a challenge or project you are on at this point in time (It is not necessary that you share with the whole group, so not to worry), or just come and rub off the high energy!

We will start by sending energy to areas that you would like to heal, as well as release what no longer serves you. Then we will ground, recenter, and be clear of manifesting the energy that will serve. We will end close the session with personal plan to launch forward.

Venue: Yoga In Common

An Evening of Stories & Songs about Lord Shiva and Parvati

Kirtan & Katha for Mahashivratri - Stories & Songs about Lord Shiva and Parvati With Charu Ramesh & Vaishali Lyer

Mahashivratri is the night that Lord Shiva attains perfect stillness in meditation and oneness with his abode, Mount Kailash. This symbolises the union of the spiritual, in the form of divine energy, and the material, in the form of the energy of the earth.

Join us to explore and celebrate the many forms and aspects of Lord Shiva: cosmic destroyer, husband, father, ascetic, dancer, yogi and teacher. Through songs and stories we will discover how Lord Shiva bridges contrasting and often contradictory roles, embodying the divine and the human, samsara and nirvana, simultaneously.

Hip Opening Yoga Workshop

Date: Sunday, 19 Feb 2017
Time: 11.45AM - 1.45PM
Venue: 21B Bukit Pasoh @ TripleGem

Hip Opening Yoga Workshop

Many people developed tight hips over time due to their lifestyle and also emotional stress. Sitting long hours working in an office or working out intensively do not increase mobility in your hip sockets. In fact, the hip flexors is in flexion (90 degrees more or less) most of the time, tensing the muscles around the hips.

If you are not desk bound most of the time, tight hips do indicate that you might be holding negative energy in this area – Fear!

We will be working progressively in this workshop to slowly open your hips. Keeping a focus on your breath and gentle adjustments to release tensions. Release and move freely again.
